We already highlighted in one of our previous articles that Matcha and Weight Loss are related, and that Matcha Powder can support fat burning. In this article we would like to share our 3 top tips of how to lose weight with Matcha Green Tea, and how to integrate Matcha into your daily routine to maximise the benefits Matcha has on losing weight.

Why Does Matcha Help With Weight Loss?

For everyone who is looking to maximise his or her weight loss efforts, Matcha really is a great place to start. Why is this the case? It has received much hype as the perfect diet booster. So, what is the science? Matcha Green Tea catechins exert a thermogenic effect. This means that they help to drive the fat burning process within your body. While there are not many studies about Matcha Tea specifically, there are studies about green tea in general. This, however, should apply to Matcha, as Matcha is a type of green tea. The study we refer to can be found here. There is also another meta-study you can find here, which lists various other studies that have been carried out about the effects of green tea on fat metabolism, and it highlights that, while not all studies support this finding, most studies support that green tea has a positive effect on fat burning.

1) Combine Matcha and Intermittent Fasting

Intermittent fasting refers to any prolonged period of time in which you do not consume any calories. Intermittent fasting has a lot of positive effects on your health. Intermittent fasting is an eating pattern that cycles between periods of fasting and eating. It does not really specify what you should eat or how much. When you do intermittent fasting, you are fasting every day between 14-16 hours, and you only eat food in an 8-10 hour window. As Matcha powder contains nearly no calories (if you drink it without milk or milk substitute or sugar), it can perfectly be consumed in the 14-16 hour fasting cycle. Intermittent fasting supports fat burning and detoxification. As Matcha does the same, it can be perfectly combined with intermittent fasting. Find out more about intermittent fasting here.

2) Combine Matcha and Exercise to Achieve Weight Loss

Matcha Green Tea can support endurance during exercise and boost fat burning when consumed regularly.
Matcha can boost endurance

The studies we refer to highlight beneficial effects of Matcha Green Tea when doing exercise or in rest periods during periods of exercise. It should be no surprise that workouts and doing exercise help with losing weight. To achieve weight loss will certainly be hard to achieve without doing any exercise. However, if you combine exercise and Matcha, you can boost your results!

Our experience is that it can be helpful to use a cold or hot Matcha Tea within ½ hour before exercising as pre workout "food". You can also blend it with protein powder if you try to build muscles! We find that about 1 tablespoon of Matcha before your workout will help fuel and maintain the body.

This is confirmed by one study that has found that green tea boosts endurance by using fat as energy. You can find the study here.

3) Consume Matcha Tea Regularly to Boost Fat Burning

To make sure you get the maximum benefits from your Matcha intake, we recommend you drink 2-3 cups per day. We personally feel that this gives us the best advantage, and it gives us a certain calm alertness, which only Matcha can provide. To find out more about the benefits of Matcha, which are not restricted to burning fat, please check our article about the benefits of drinking Matcha.

Conclusion

Various studies show that Matcha can boost endurance and support fat burning and weight loss. To maximise the benefits of Matcha, it should be combined with exercise and ideally be consumed before the workout. It can also be combined with intermittent fasting, which also supports fat burning and detoxification. If you consume Matcha regularly, you should be able to maximise the beneficial effects of Matcha Green Tea.
